Raining Pleasure new album update, part 2!

Another new song is on the way to the new -long anticipated- album of my favorite band!

It is an absolutely entertaining and refreshing guitar-pop track and it is called Tik Tik Tak (i don't know if this is the final title, though). A song that is destined to be a hit! :)

It is the kind of Raining Pleasure songs that make you play the (fuckin' easy to learn, actually) air guitar, homedance, sing along in the bathroom, the kitchen, the bed, during sex, in front of the telly, while watching your new favorite series; Prison Break (season 1, yet).... Ok, i think you got the point... :)

The presence of guitar and the lack of synthies seems to be refreshing in the sound of Raining Pleasure (for the time being, of course - bear in mind that i have listened to only a demo version, yet).

To cut a long story short, Tik Tik Tak is a guitar pure-pop hit that noone else (band or artist) in the greek music business can produce, without making himself sound ridiculously shallow. That's what i believe, anyway.

Raining Pleasure new album update!

This is one of the most exciting seasons for being a Raining Pleasure fan - the time a new RP album is getting ready!!!!

I have listened about 5-6 songs so far.

Only one of it is yet finished; what you may call a proper song. It is called "Burn Down The Church" and it is a song that the band has played live, over the last few months.

I have already told you what i think about it (check here), haven't i?

Well, here is what i think about the direction of the new Raining Pleasure album: it is gonna kick out many asses! :) The guitars are rocking their guts out and the usual catchy melodic lines that are prominent in their discography, are still here.

The songs i have listened so far are just some rough ideas, not fully crafted songs, without lyrics, except from some vocals in a couple of parts. But, it is evident that Raining Pleasure are moving to a more guitarish sound. My guess? Their listenings have changed over the last two years and the fact that they may change a producer, as they did for Reflections album, is gonna result to a back to their roots (aka as in their live concerts) sound. That means little, or not at all, presence of synthies and a quite more straight-forward synthetic style.

It seems like my wish for a re-recording of Memory Comes Back [their debut album], maybe the most underestimated album of the band, is not gonna come true, not very soon, at least. You see, Memory Comes Back is their most "rock" album, but lacked a good quality sound. Now, it all seems that the new RP album is gonna be the proper rock "major" album they haven't done yet.

I am pretty anxious about this.

Vassilikos is guesting on the new Marsheaux album!

Vassilikos is doing vocals on the new Marsheaux album. The song Vassilikos appears on is called "PROMISE" (cover version of a song by "When in Rome") and it is a duet.

The album is called "Peek A Boo" and will be released on the 1st week of December.

The song is actually very very good, with a very catchy refrain and i can't wait to buy it! Nice work u did here Marsheuax girls!

The first Raining Pleasure gig that we hosted at Teloneio, Patras!

It was back in February, 2002, when we decided to test our skills in booking and promotion (etc). So, we organized a special gig by our favorite band, in our hometown, Patras, Greece.

The Flood album had just been released two months ago and the vibes around the band were excellent. The fan club was only 1-2 motnhs old and we were full of ideas and eagerness to do things...

Fake was a hit all over the greek radio and we were looking for a big enough place to host our dream :)

It was a very eventful Raining Pleasure gig. Panos Gikas was attending the concert and eventually he went on stage to perform a version of Romance, a song he wrote years ago, from the Memory Comes Back album, back in 1996.

They also performed a cover of a New Model Army song, but hell... i don't remember which one. It was a medley with Capricorn i think. I also remember me being very very drunk, so don't ask for many more details, ok?

Anyway, i would like to thank all these nice people who helped making this event becoming a reality. And many thanx to Kostas Vamvoukas for helping us, not only with a very nice sound, but also with the various little problems we experienced during the live event.

I hope i will be able to repeat this gig again. It felt really nice at the end of the night being able to see 600-700 people having fan and being thankful to you, for making this happen.

New issue of Sonik magazine with Raining Pleasure in the cover!

The new issue of Sonik magazine, one of the most popular greek magazines, has been released with Raining Pleasure being one the four anglophone greek indie bands featured in the cover.

Apart from RP, the other three bands are: Film, Closer and Matisse.

Each band is making questions to the other bands about music or even completely different things [such as the questions Raining Pleasure do:) ]

Some reasons why Raining Pleasure are the leaders of the Greek Music scene!

Raining Pleasure are a band with a 16 years history.

They have been an influence for various new local bands since 1990, especially in Patras.

Raining Pleasure are one of the very few Greek bands with a singer having such a british/english accent. Vassilikos does not only have a magnificent voice, but also the best english accent in Greece.

There are many other reasons to mention. After all, this is all what this blog is about. :) But, the main reason Raining Pleasure are the most important band of their times, coming from Greece, Southern Europe, is:

the fact that all the stupid little, frustrated creatures self-described as indie guardians are jealous of their success. Forgive me for my bitterness. I know i will regret it, but i cannot tolerate, personally, all this stupidity about them being rich, being blinded by success and about their songs being used in commercials by major brands, such as Cosmote (the greek state mobile telephony company), 3Epsilon (a coca-cola company) and Tsakiris chips and OTE (the greek state telephony company).

This is the most important proof of their talent and their greatness. And this is why i cannot see anybody right now being able to really make some worthy music in this country. For those of you who can speak greek, take a look at this post where the bands themselves write about other "indie" greek bands in a really bitter and derogatory way. And the reason is just because they got less concert bookings or press coverage or they weren't selected by Sonic magazine, for their first greek indie compilation.

This is the first and the last time i will complain. Believe me... The purpose of this blog is to be a accompaniment of your... (Raining) pleasure and nothing more.

i have discovered some photos by the band.

They are from Rodon Fm blog. Rodon Fm is a music radio station in Serres, Greece.

My first Raining Pleasure gig...

Back in 1995, it was carnival time (the famous carnival of Patras). I was just getting to know a new band from Patras, my hometown, from a Pop and Rock Magazine cd-collection.

It was a cd about the local anglophone music scene, featuring bands like Mayday Overdrive, Dirty Saints and a band by Chris Gallanopoulos, called Lexema (or something like that, i don't quite remember).

Raining Pleasure's contribution to the sampler was the following three songs:

A Sad Universe
My Planet B612 (yeaaaaahh, right - our godfather)
and
Let The Light Lead You

Three beautiful, yet "plainly" produced, songs. Nice vocals, sing along personal and kinda melancholic lyrics and a violin that made them stand out!

Well, for the next few months, me and my best friend, Sotiris, never really stopped talking about their music. In February (don't expect me to remember a date, ok?) the school was talking about a very live concert, in theater Pantheon (bought by Village Cinemas eventually). The line up:

Mayday Overdrive
Ksylina Spathia

That's right... Almost all the bands featured in this Pop and Rock sampler, plus one of the biggest then greek-singing rock bands (Ksilina Spathia).

Raining Pleasure were the opening act. I didn't really know the songs, apart from these 3. But, their appearance is the memorable appearance i have since my youth. Lousy sound (Pantheon is kinda notorious for its bad quality sound), but an exceptional closure. Their final song was a cover to Paul Anka's "You Are My Destiny". A song that later would prove to be a special part of their live sets for quite a few years, prior to signing for Emi.

I also remember having a brief conversation with Dimitris Poulikakos, one of the most respected (kinda cult for me, though) rock personas of Greek "underground" music. He told me that these four guys from Patras have a bright future ahead!

Man, you were soooo right :)

Eleven (11) years later, Raining Pleasure have recorded five (5) albums, three (3) of them at Emi Greece. They have been nominated two (2) golden records and they have sold more than 55.000 copies. Thousands of loyal fans follow every new step of theirs.
And most important? They are pretty ready for the big (and quite difficult until someone proves it a myth) step to foreign audiences.

But the most important of all, for me at least, is that they are currently working on their new album! :)

Who is Manos Hadjidakis? pt.1

Manos Hadjidakis is the most important Greek composer of 20th century.

His 1967 "Reflections" album was a collaboration with New York Rock N' Roll Ensemble. This album was re-recorded by Raining Pleasure as a tribute to this great composer, back in 2004.

Here are some biographical stuff about Manos Hadjidakis.

"Manos Hadjidakis (as his name is usually spelled in English) is perhaps modern Greece's greatest composer and songwriter, rivaled only by Mikis Theodorakis for the title. Hadjidakis helped usher in a new era of Greek music in the post-WWII era, elevating the earthiest strains of Greek folk and popular song into respected art forms. In the process, he found tremendous popular success in his home country, chiefly through his work as a pop songwriter, and became familiar to international audiences through his movie soundtracks, winning an Oscar in 1960. He also composed contemporary classical pieces for ensembles small and large, often inspired by Greek poetry, and wrote for theater and ballet. Many of his songs, larger compositions, and recordings are considered classics in Greece, and cornerstones of the country's modern popular music. He remained a highly respected intellectual and cultural figure in Greece up until his death in 1994.Hadjidakis was born in the northern town of Xanthi, Greece, on October 23, 1925. He started piano lessons at age four, and later learned the violin and accordion as well. In 1932, his parents divorced, and he moved with his mother to Athens. His father died in a plane crash in 1938, leaving the family in a dire financial state only worsened by the German occupation in World War II. Hadjidakis worked a succession of odd jobs to support his family, but also managed to study advanced music theory and composition as a teenager, also enrolling at the University of Athens to study philosophy (circumstances prevented him from finishing his degree). In 1943, he met the revered surrealist poet Nikos Gatsos, who would go on to become his favorite lyricist and work with him on the vast majority of his vocal compositions.Hadjidakis first found an outlet for his compositional ability when he connected with the Art Theatre of Athens, and contributed music to its 1944 production of Alexis Solomos' The Last White Crow. He would work with the Art Theatre for the next 15 years, scoring a number of canonical plays by American and European writers, and also began to do the same for the Greek National Theatre starting in the early '50s. He wrote his first film score, for Free Slaves, in 1946, and the following year published his first contemporary piano piece, For a Small White Seashell. In 1948, Hadjidakis gave a high-profile academic lecture praising rembetika (sometimes spelled rebetico), the popular folk song form that was the province of the urban lower class and was regarded as borderline immoral by the conservative intelligentsia. The country's musical establishment was scandalized, but Hadjidakis had mapped out the path that would make him one of modern Greece's most cherished musical figures.As a composer, Hadjidakis embraced rembetika on his 1951 piano work Six Folklore Paintings, which adapted rembetika melodies into a more artful presentation, and was also presented as a ballet (one of four he composed from 1949-1957). In the meantime, he had begun to compose music for theatrical productions of classic Greek tragedies, starting with Aeschylus' Orestes trilogy in 1950; normally, such a job was reserved for scholarly academics. He completed one of his major modern classical works in 1954's The C.N.S. Cycle, a song cycle for piano and baritone vocalist. The following year, he scored the motion picture Stella, which would prove to be one of his major successes in that area. Starring actress Melina Mercouri, whom Hadjidakis had known from her days in the theater, sang the song portions of the soundtrack, and would become one of Hadjidakis' most sympathetic interpreters.In 1959, Hadjidakis began working with the young, up-and-coming Nana Mouskouri, for whom he would supply material on a regular basis; he also helped introduce the music of Mikis Theodorakis to the Greek public by arranging his song "Epitaphios" for a Mouskouri recording session. The following year, he reunited with Mercouri on the Jules Dassin-directed film Never on Sunday. It was a breakthrough international hit that won Hadjidakis an Oscar for his title song, which became a smash success in many parts of the world. In 1962, he staged the controversial musical Street of Dreams, now regarded as a landmark of Greek theater for its frank subject matter, and completed revisions on his score for Aristophanes' Birds, which subsequently ranked among his finest compositions.Hadjidakis scored two more internationally prominent films in Elia Kazan's America, America (1963) and Jules Dassin's Topkapi (1964), and struck up a lengthy partnership with choreographer Maurice Béjart of 20th Century Ballets, who collaborated on the composer's forays into ballet from then on. Hadjidakis also founded the Athens Experimental Orchestra in 1964, which provided a vehicle for his own work and that of avant-garde Greek composers like Iannis Xenakis. However, even as Hadjidakis' interest in experimental music grew, so did his interest in song structure; his 1965 work Mythology found him ranging farther and farther afield in his traditional songwriting, fusing elements of symphonic, Turkish Byzantine, and ancient Greek music with modern rembetika. In 1966, Hadjidakis traveled to New York for the Broadway premiere of Illya Darling, the stage version of Never on Sunday. He wound up staying there until 1972, in part because of the repressive military junta that took over the Greek government. While in America, he completed several more major compositions, including the piano piece Rhythmology and the song cycle Magnus Eroticus, which set 12 Greek poems modern and ancient to music; still fascinated by popular song, he also recorded the LP Reflections with the New York Rock and Roll Ensemble.Hadjidakis returned to Greece in 1972, and when the military dictatorship fell, he took a number of high-ranking cultural positions: directing the State Orchestra (through 1981) and the classical-oriented channel of the national radio (1982), as well as becoming deputy director of the national opera (until 1977). He started several music festivals and competitions in the late '70s and early '80s, and in 1985 started his own record company (Sirius) and cultural magazine. In 1989, he founded and directed the Orchestra of Colours, a symphonic group devoted to unconventional works. By this time, he was suffering from heart problems, which would eventually claim his life on June 15, 1994.

Melodies After The Rain…

"Γειά σας. Είμαστε οι Raining Pleasure από την Πάτρα" ακούω από το ραδιόφωνο μου, με τη βελόνα κολλημένη (για 3 χρόνια) στους 94.4 μεγακύκλους, ένα απόγευμα πριν από 5 χρόνια. Καλεσμένοι εκείνη την ημέρα στην εκπομπή "υπεράνω πάσης υποψίας" ήταν μια μουσική παρέα από την Πάτρα με το όνομα Raining Pleasure.

Ακολουθεί το Waiting For The Bell To Ring ένα κομμάτι που άκουγα συχνά μέσα από εκείνη τη ραδιοφωνική συχνότητα, αλλά δεν είχα ποτέ καταφέρει να μάθω ποιοι "ευθύνονται" γι αυτό. Θα μπορούσε άραγε να είναι των παιδιών που είναι καλεσμένοι; Παρ΄όλο που περνά πολλές φορές αυτή η σκέψη από το μυαλό μου, η μουσική, ο στίχος και κυρίως η προφορά με κάνουν να κρατώ τις επιφυλάξεις μου.

Για να λύσω έτσι τους στιγμιαίους μου προβληματισμούς, αλλά και για να γνωρίσω καλύτερα τους Raining Pleasure, κάθομαι να ακούσω μέχρι τέλους την εκπομπή, να δω κιόλας ποιοι είναι οι υπεύθυνοι για το γλυκό αυτό κομμάτι. Αποτέλεσμα αυτής της ακρόασης; Να αποκτήσω μια νέα αγαπημένη μπάντα (που είναι και ενχώρια!). Α! και το κυριότερο, το Waiting For The Bell To Ring ήταν όντως των Raining Pleasure!

Από τότε και ύστερα "μάζεψα" ό,τι είχαν κυκλοφορήσει, δηλαδή το πρώτο τους album Memory Comes Back και αργότερα το Nostalgia που το διαδέχθηκε, καθώς και κάποιες συλλογές από διάφορα περιοδικά όπως το Ποπ και Ροκ και το 7" στο Fractal. Με αφορμή λοιπόν την κουβέντα που είχα με τον Vassiliko (ιδρυτικό μέλος της μπάντας), πήρα την απόφαση να κάνω μια προσπάθεια να σας τους παρουσιάσω όσο το δυνατόν πιο αμερόληπτα (πράγμα δύσκολο όταν πρόκειται να αναφερθείς σε κάτι αγαπημένο), να καταλάβετε και εσείς ποιοι τελικά είναι αυτοί οι Raining Pleasure από την Πάτρα.

Το συγκρότημα έρχεται από την πρωτεύουσα της Αχαίας και αποτελείται από τον Vassiliko (vocals, bass, keys, guitar), Jeremy (guitars, keys), Spiral (guitars, keys) Doggie (guitars), Jay (drums) και όπως φαντάζεστε, προτιμούν να χρησιμοποιούν ψευδώνυμα αντί των πραγματικών τους ονομάτων, δίνοντας έτσι σημασία στο τι κάνουν παρά στο ποιοι είναι.

Η αρχή γίνεται στα πρώτα χρόνια της προηγούμενης δεκαετίας με τους Rest In Peace, το συγκρότημα του Vassilikou. Δύο χρόνια μετά τη δημιουργία αυτού, ο Vassilikos μαζί με τον Jeremy παίρνουν την απόφαση να αλλάξουν μουσικό ύφος και να μετονομαστούν σε Raining Pleasure, όνομα που δανείζονται από το ομώνυμο τραγούδι των Triffids. Παρέα με τον Pano (guitar, violin) και τον Dreamie (drums) θα ηχογραφήσουν τον πρώτο τους δίσκο με τίτλο Memory Comes Back (96) για λογαριασμό της Lazy Dog. Στο album αυτό περιλαμβάνονται κομμάτια που δούλευαν μια δεκαετία ανάμεσα στα οποία είναι και το Waiting For The Bell To Ring (ο Vassilikos το έγραψε σε ηλικία 16 ετών), το Romance, Talking To A Poet, 2U και πολλά πολλά άλλα.

Δύο χρόνια αργότερα, πάντα στην ίδια εταιρεία, κυκλοφορεί ο δεύτερος δίσκος Nostalgia κάπως πιο ατμοσφαιρικός από τον πρώτο, πάντα όμως με τον χαρακτηριστικό ρομαντισμό των Raining Pleasure με τραγούδια όπως το Julie's Birthday, το Is That Yoo? καθώς και το υπέροχο Six Days And Six Nights που κλείνει το album με τον ιδανικότερο τρόπο. Αναλογίζοντας τα χρόνια που ασχολούνται τα παιδιά με την μπάντα, διαπιστώνει κανείς πως η παρέα από την Πάτρα βρίσκεται 11 χρόνια στα μουσικά δρώμενα.

"Τα πράγματα πήγαν αργά και πολύ σταθερά με τις διακυμάνσεις που φυσικά εννοούνται μέσα σε αυτά τα 11 χρόνια. Και αυτό ήταν και καλό και κακό. Ήταν πολύ κουραστικό από τη μία, αλλά από την άλλη μπορούσαμε σε όλα αυτά τα χρόνια να συνειδητοποιήσουμε με πολύ μεγάλη ακρίβεια ό,τι γινόταν, γιατί είχαμε όσο χρόνο θέλαμε στη διάθεσή μας. Άλλα γκρουπ στην Αγγλία, για παράδειγμα, μπορεί να χρειάζονταν τα μισά χρόνια να κάνουνε ό,τι κάναμε εμείς τώρα, όμως κάτω από τις ίδιες συνθήκες ακριβώς για τον ίδιο λόγο μπορεί να μην επιβίωναν. Νιώθουμε πάντως αρκετά χαρούμενοι για ό,τι κάναμε μέχρι τώρα" μου λέει ο Vassilikos αναφερόμενος στα 11 χρόνια της μουσικής τους διαδρομής.

Μπορεί η περιοδικότητα με την οποία κυκλοφορούν τη δουλειά τους να είναι αρκετά μεγάλη, η ποιότητα αυτής παραμερίζει την όποια αναμονή. Όπως έγινε και τώρα, με το νέο τους EP Capricorn. Μπορεί η κυκλοφορία του να καθυστέρησε 3 χρόνια μετά την κυκλοφορία του Nostalgia, το περιεχόμενο αυτού σε κάνει να πιστεύεις πως ίσως τελικά να άξιζε μια τέτοια αναμονή. "Αυτά τα 3 χρόνια δεν ήταν οποιαδήποτε 3 χρόνια. Τρεις από εμάς πήγαν φαντάροι, ήρθαν και έφυγαν αρκετά άτομα από το γκρουπ… Με λίγα λόγια, μαζεύαμε εμπειρίες!"

Το νέο αυτό EP αποτελεί τον προπομπό του νέου τους δίσκου, ο οποίος, όπως μου είπε, λογικά θα κυκλοφορήσει το φθινόπωρο. Από την πρώτη ματιά στο Capricorn EP αντιλαμβάνεσαι τις αλλαγές που έφεραν στο συγκρότημα αυτά τα 3 χρόνια. Αλλαγές στο artwork, στο line-up αλλά κυρίως στη δισκογραφική στέγη, μετακομίζοντας έτσι από την μικρότερη Lazy Dog στην μεγαλύτερη EMI. "Οι άνθρωποι στο αγγλόφωνο τμήμα της EMI είναι ιδιαίτερα ανήσυχοι και ένα χρόνο πριν από εμάς έκαναν το πρώτο συμβόλαιο με αγγλόφωνο ελληνικό γκρουπ, τους Closer, πράγμα που τιμάει και τους μεν και τους δε. Με αφορμή αυτή τους την κίνηση και μέσω του Φώτη (μάνατζερ των Raining Pleasure) ήρθαμε σε επαφή και όπως φάνηκε, το ενδιαφέρον ήταν αμοιβαίο."

Το συμβόλαιο με την EMI αποτελεί ένα μεγάλο βήμα για την περαιτέρω πορεία των παιδιών μιας και τώρα ανοίγονται περισσότερες πόρτες για την προώθηση της δουλειάς τους. Μια από αυτές, είναι και η έξοδος τους πέρα των περιορισμένων συνόρων της χώρας μας, πράγμα το οποίο ήθελαν εδώ και πολύ καιρό. "Πράγματι, αν όλα πάνε καλά το εξωτερικό φαίνεται να είναι μια προοπτική, που φυσικά όπως είπες και εσύ, την προσδοκούσαμε εδώ και χρόνια. Θα χρειαστεί πάρα πολύ δουλειά όμως. Ελπίζουμε να πάνε όλα κατ΄ευχήν." (σ.ε. και εμείς!)

Πριν ακόμα προκύψει η EMI, εκείνοι είχαν φροντίσει να στείλουν δείγματα της δουλειάς τους στο εξωτερικό "Ο Φώτης, όπως μου λεει ο Vassilikos είχε στείλει κάποια demo στο εξωτερικό και μάλιστα είχαμε ήδη αρχίσει να συζητάμε με κάποιους, αλλά στο μεταξύ προέκυψε η EMI και το αφήσαμε."

Ήδη ακούγονται καλά σχόλια για τη νέα τους δουλειά από στόματα εκτός Ελλάδας φουσκώνοντας έτσι τις φιλοδοξίες μας για το μέλλον της μπάντας. Γεγονός όμως που μπορεί να κάνει όλο και ποιο πιθανό το ενδεχόμενο να χρειαστεί να μετακομίσουν στο αστικό κέντρο της χώρας μας, πράγμα το οποίο φαντάζει πολύ μακρινό στα μάτια τους. "Το ένα δεν έχει σχέση με το άλλο. Τουλάχιστον έτσι φαίνεται τώρα. Προς το παρόν λειτουργούμε καλύτερα εδώ, θα πρέπει οι συνθήκες να είναι εξαιρετικά ιδανικές για να πάρουμε μια τέτοια απόφαση. Εκτός από το γκρουπ έχουμε τις σπουδές μας, τις δουλειές μας, κι όλα αυτά χρειάζονται πολύ σοβαρά πατήματα για να τα βάλεις σε ρίσκο. Δεν αποκλείουμε τίποτα. Το μέλλον θα δείξει."

Μέχρι στιγμής, οι Raining Pleasure πετυχαίνουν σιγά σιγά τους σκοπούς που είχαν θέσει όταν πρωτοξεκινούσαν, αντιμετωπίζοντας οποιαδήποτε τυχόν προβλήματα που προέκυψαν στην πορεία. Οι ευκαιρίες που τους δόθηκαν μέσα σε αυτά τα χρόνια ήρθαν απρόοπτα εύκολα. "Θα σου φανεί παράξενο, αλλά δεν αντιμετωπίσαμε δυσκολίες. Ήμασταν πολύ τυχεροί ως προς αυτό. Οι ευκαιρίες ήρθαν όποτε τις ψάξαμε, με χαρακτηριστική ευκολία. Για κάποιο λόγο δε χρειάστηκε να πείσουμε κανέναν. Ίσως γιατί πάντοτε λέγαμε την αλήθεια. Σαν μουσική και σαν έκφραση εννοώ. Είμαστε αυτό που παίζουμε και αυτό τα κάνει πιο εύκολα για μας" μου εξηγεί o Vassilikos. Τελικά, όταν κάτι έχει πραγματική αξία, η αναγνώριση θα είναι το φυσικό επακόλουθο αυτής. Αυτό που διαφέρει από περίπτωση σε περίπτωση είναι ο χρόνος που θα χρειαστεί για να γίνει αυτή η αναγνώριση.

Κάτι τώρα, που συμβαίνει συχνά στην μπάντα, είναι οι αλλαγές στο line-up τους. Από τετραμελές σχήμα μετατράπηκαν σε πενταμελές, μετά σε εξαμελές και ύστερα πάλι σε πενταμελές επηρεάζοντας είτε θετικά είτε αρνητικά την όλη κατάσταση. "Αν δούμε την κατάσταση όπως έχει τώρα, δηλαδή αυτοί που είμαστε τον τελευταίο ενάμιση χρόνο, βγαίνει το συμπέρασμα ότι όλες αυτές οι αλλαγές έγιναν για καλό και μόνο. Βέβαια την ώρα που συνέβαιναν, πίστεψε με, δεν ήταν καθόλου ευχάριστες. Αλλά πάντα παίρνει λίγο καιρό για να καταλάβεις…"

Ωστόσο το στοιχείο εκείνο που συνέδεε και συνεχίζει να συνδέει τα μέλη του γκρουπ είναι οι κλασσικές σπουδές τους στη μουσική. Τώρα για το πώς εμπνέονται και το πώς γράφουν τα τραγούδια τους, αυτό εξαρτάται από διάφορους παράγοντες. Είτε δουλεύει ο καθένας ξεχωριστά, είτε μαζεύονται όλοι μαζί και "φιλοτεχνούν" τις ιδέες τους. "Και οι δύο τρόποι λειτουργούν με εμάς, είτε φέρνει κάποιος ένα κομμάτι και μετά όλοι μαζί το δουλεύουμε και το πλάθουμε, είτε την ώρα που τζαμάρουμε προκύπτει μια ωραία ιδέα από όλους ή και ολόκληρο κομμάτι ατόφιο. ΄Όταν όμως συμβαίνει το δεύτερο, τα κομμάτια έχουν μια χαρακτηριστική δύναμη που είναι ουσιαστικά ο ήχος των Raining Pleasure."

Μέσα από τα χρόνια της ζωής των Raining Pleasure, τα παιδιά συλλέγουν τις πιο έντονες εικόνες μέσα από τα live τους. Στην Αθήνα, λόγω της απόστασης και των υποχρεώσεων τους, οι ζωντανές τους εμφανίσεις περιορίζονται σε ελάχιστες. Βέβαια, ποιος μπορεί να ξεχάσει την εξαιρετική τους εμφάνιση στους Χάρτες πριν από ένα χρόνο. Εκείνο το ανοιξιάτικο απόγευμα, οι Raining Pleasure έφεραν τις κιθάρες τους και έπαιξαν αγαπημένα κομμάτια από διαφορετικά συγκροτήματα και καλλιτέχνες για τον κόσμο που είχε μαζευτεί να τους ακούσει (όσοι είχατε βρεθεί εκεί, θα θυμόσαστε να έχει γίνει το αδιαχώρητο όχι μόνο μέσα στους Χάρτες αλλά και στον πεζόδρομο της Βαλτετσίου!).

Μέσα σε μια παρείστικη ατμόσφαιρα, που είχε δημιουργήσει η μπάντα σε απόλυτη συνεργασία με το κοινό, ακούσαμε τραγούδια των James, Tortoise, Pixies, Carpenters, Belle And Sebastian, Divine Comedy, Pulp δια στόματος Raining Pleasure, ενώ για το τέλος μας επιφύλασσαν το καλύτερο, Waiting For The Bell To Ring. "Είναι πολύ συγκινητική η περιγραφή που έκανες για εκείνη την ημέρα. Κάπως έτσι το θυμόμαστε και εμείς. Πολλοί φίλοι, ωραίο κλίμα, μες στην άνοιξη, μπύρα… Θες και άλλα;" Ελπίζουμε μόνο να μην αργήσουν να επισκεφθούν και πάλι τα μέρη μας. Όπως μου είπε, δεν έχουν κανονίσει ακόμα κάποιο live, αλλά σίγουρα θα παίξουν σύντομα. Εσείς, για καλό και για κακό, έχετε τα μάτια και τα αυτιά σας ανοιχτά μην συμβεί κάτι εκεί έξω σε κάποιο πεζόδρομο στο κέντρο της Αθήνας…

Ξεχνώντας ηθελημένα την ιδιότητα του Vassilikou ως μουσικό, τον ρωτάω ως ακροατή πια για τα ελληνικά σχήματα που ξεχωρίζει. Έχοντας βάσιμες πληροφορίες ότι οι Στέρεο Νόβα είναι αγαπημένο του γκρουπ, εκείνος έρχεται να μου τις ανατρέψει. "Δεν ξέρω γιατί έχουν όλοι την εντύπωση ότι μας αρέσουν τόσο πολύ οι Στέρεο Νόβα. Δεν λεω πως δεν μας άρεσαν στο παρελθόν, αλλά μάλλον είναι υπερβολικά όλα αυτά. Από ελληνικά σχήματα τώρα μας αρέσουν οι Bokomolech, Closer, Pillow, One Night Suzan, Groove Machine και πολλά άλλα που μπορεί να μας διαφεύγουν τώρα. Αυτά από γκρουπ. Υπάρχουν όμως και καλλιτέχνες που μας αρέσουν κατά καιρούς όπως Λένα Πλάτωνος, Σαβίνα Γιαννάτου, Μάνος Χατζιδάκης, Νίκος Παπάζογλου."

Ύστερα από "πολύωρες" ακροάσεις του Capricorn EP, μου δημιουργείται η εξής εύλογη απορία την οποία και του υποβάλλω λίγο πριν τον αποχαιρετήσω. Is this world made for women? "Εσύ το ζεις. Εσύ θα έπρεπε να μας πεις. Αλλά για να το λεει το τραγούδι μάλλον έτσι θα είναι." Χμ… Ναι, μου φαίνεται πως έχω και εγώ την ίδια εντύπωση!!

Δεν ξέρω κατά πόσο πέτυχα τον αρχικό μου σκοπό, να αποφύγω δηλαδή τις παγίδες υποκειμενικότητας που συνάντησα στο κείμενο αυτό. Ο βαθμός δυσκολίας πάντως ήταν σίγουρα μεγάλος! Ελπίζω μόνο, να σας έδωσα μια μικρή έστω εντύπωση για το ποια τελικά είναι αυτή η παρέα από την Πάτρα. Ούτως ή άλλως, η γνωριμία σας με τους Raining Pleasure είναι κάτι προσωπικό για τον καθένα από εσάς. Όπως εκείνο το απόγευμα, για παράδειγμα, στο Ρόδον 94,4….

Where Raining Pleasure got their name from?

Well, do you know a band called The Triffids?
They have a very beautiful song called... well, "Raining Pleasure" (yeah, you guessed correct!).

They are one of my favorites bands, actually. Australians, with a charismatic composer and singer who passed away some years ago. His name was David McComb. If Nick Cave deserved to make it big apart from countries like Greece, then The Triffids are a very unfortunate case in the musical industry, as far as their commercial status is concerned.

The two worst Raining Pleasure gigs

Among the various Raining Pleasure gigs i have attended, i must say that there are a couple of gigs, i'd rather not remember.

1. At Stage club, Patras. It was a two-perfomances bill. The first of them was at the day that Sakis Rouvas perfomed at Eurovision (2004). :) Bad sound and a lousy performance, along with the not-so-special playlist made me wanna leave the club, during a Raining Pleasure gig! The strange thing was that the very next day, their perfomance at the same club, with almost the same playlist, was one of their best ones! More than 60 people got ON the stage, during the final song and grabbed a mic, a guitar, a bass, whatever they found in their way and joined the band for a few moments! But more on this, in a more

2. At Keramikos club, Athens (2006).
It was like someone casted a spell on them!

As i won't forget these two gigs, i can tell you for sure, i won't either forget many more excellent ones!

After all, Raining Pleasure are a live concert driven band, who constantly like changing their own songs and perfecting them, according to their current mood, sound and line-up.

Where Raining Pleasure's fan club got its name...

My Planet B612 is our name, right?

Well, how on earth did we choose that name?

The answer is not that simple as "from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's novel".

The actual truth is that the idea of the fan club is taken from the "My Planet B612" track by Raining Pleasure. It is one of their first 3 songs ever published, back in 1995, in a compilation album by "Pop and Rock" magazine.

Raining Pleasure's Reflections has gone gold!

Reflections, Raining Pleasure's tribute to Manos Hadjidakis and New York Ensemble's historical album, has gone gold!!!

This is the second gold album by Raining Pleasure.

The nomination of the golden album will be made in the next weeks.

The band that Pitchforkmedia has not discovered yet!

I strongly believe that if there was any band from Europe, that deserves to be reviewed by the so much hyped Pitchforkmedia.com is Raining Pleasure.

I am so sure about this, that i might send their cd's myself! :)

The ones i would bet money on:

1. Nostalgia album (a lost diamond album from 1998) maybe!

But, wait! There is also,

2. their most comprehensive album, Flood (Emi Greece, 2001) and also

3. the vastly experimental with many musical styles Forwards and Backwards album (Emi Greece/Labels Music Germany & Austria, 2003).

And last, but not least,

4. the Reflections album. A tribute album to the famous album made by the most acclaimed Greek composer, Manos Hadjidakis and the New York Rock N' Roll Ensemble. A fantastic album, with a very unique sound, which combines elements of Greek music and classic rock but with the sound and the approach of Raining Pleasure (which means, no "classic" rock at all, in the way you know what "classic rock" stands for). As for their debut, excellent songs, but poor production.

Tough choice after all...

Listen to their music and if you agree, then bomb their email boxes with mails for a Raining Pleasure review!!!

Raining Pleasure: Flood: [Coming of a] great quantity of water

Oι μεγάλες προσδοκίες είναι επικίνδυνη κατάσταση διότι στην περίπτωση της απογοήτευσης, συνήθως ακολουθεί η κατάρρευση. Αυτό σε όλους τους τομείς της ζωής μας. Κάτι παρόμοιο συναντάται και στη μουσική βιομηχανία. Κάθε ένας από εμάς έχει κάποια πιστεύω και ορισμένες πάγιες αξίες και βαδίζει πάντοτε σε πλήρη σύγκλιση με αυτά. Αν κάποια στιγμή αυτές οι αξίες κατακρυμνιστούν από έναν εξωγενή παράγοντα, χάνεις όλες σου τις ελπίδες. Που κολλούν όλα αυτά στους Raining Pleasure; Πολύ απλά στο γεγονός ότι για 8 μήνες περίπου όλοι ήταν σίγουροι ότι ο τρίτος δίσκος της πατρινής μπάντας θα ήταν το διαμάντι της τρέχουσας ελληνικής δισκογραφίας. Αδυνατώ να φανταστώ τι αντίκτυπο είχε όλη αυτή η ανυπομονησία στην μπάντα, αλλά κρίνοντας από το τελικό αποτέλεσμα, θαρρώ πως λειτούργησε αποκλειστικά υπέρ τους. Συνοψίζοντας τις αερολογίες, οι RP δεν απογοήτευσαν κανένα. Έκαναν το δύσκολο εγχείρημα, έγραψαν μεγάλα τραγούδια και κυκλοφόρησαν το δίσκο της χρονιάς που μόλις μας άφησε.

Eίναι αρκετά δύσκολο να αντιπαθήσεις αυτό το δίσκο. Ενδέχεται οι αυστηροί ακροατές να διαπιστώσουν μία μικρή κοιλιά μετά το πρώτο μισάωρο, αλλά η δύναμη των τεσσάρων κομματιών που ξεχωρίζουν, γρήγορα γεφυρώνει το χάσμα. Εκτιμούμε σαφώς τα τραγούδια, είμαστε όμως πάντοτε υπέρ του συνόλου. Οπότε συνολικά κρίνοντας το δίσκο, ερχόμαστε αντιμέτωποι με μία θλιβερή αλλά απτή πραγματικότητα. «Για ελληνικό, καλό είναι». Η συγκεκριμένη ατάκα, είναι κατά τη γνώμη μου ό,τι χειρότερο θα μπορούσε να ειπωθεί για το Flood. Και δεν ισχύει μόνον εδώ. Και στον κινηματογράφο αλλά και σε άλλες μορφές τέχνης που δεν θεωρούνται ανέγγιχτες από κριτική, αυτή η μίζερη αποστασιοποιήση συναντάται αρκετά έως πολύ συχνά. Το χειρότερο είναι ότι έχει γίνει τόσο αυτόματη, που ώρες ώρες πέφτουμε και εμείς σε τέτοιες παγίδες, ενώ προσπαθούμε συνειδητά να το αποφεύγουμε.

Η ουσία όμως είναι ότι το Flood, για παγκόσμια κυκλοφορία, καλό είναι. Μπορεί να ακούγεται λίγο και άδικο αυτό το «καλό», αλλά έχω την αίσθηση πως και η ίδια η μπάντα, κάτι τέτοιο επιχειρεί να αποκτήσει από την αντιμετώπιση του τύπου. Αλλιώς δεν θα είχε τον Coti K. παραγωγό ούτε θα απέπνεε τόση δουλειά ένας δίσκος που είναι μεν ποπ, αλλά ίσως η πιο επεξεργασμένη ποπ που ακούσαμε φέτος, παγκοσμίως μιλώντας. Ενδέχεται φυσικά, η ίδια η μπάντα να μην θέλει καν να παίξει αυτό το παιχνίδι της ενδεχόμενης παγκόσμιας καταξίωσης, αλλά να αισθάνεται ότι θέλει πραγματικά να μας δώσει ένα μικρό αριστουργήμα γιατί έτσι νιώθει. Ακόμα καλύτερα λοιπόν. Και εδώ που τα λέμε, το δεύτερο σκεπτικό ίσως να είναι και πιο φυσιολογικό αν το σκεφτούμε καλύτερα. Οι 2 ή 3 χιλιάδες αποδέκτες του Flood, θα ευχαριστηθούν και θα σκεφτούν τα καλύτερα πράγματα γι’αυτά τα παιδιά. Μαζί και εμείς. Υπάρχει άραγε κάτι καλύτερο από αυτό; Τα λεφτά θα πείτε ορισμένοι. Έστω.

Ίσως τελικά μία τέτοια ανάλυση να μην ήταν απαραίτητη, όταν έχουμε να κάνουμε μέ έναν ακόμα ποπ δίσκο. Ίσως θα έπρεπε να πούμε και εμείς για τις επιρροές των James, των Pulp, της electro-pop των 80’s, και της γενικότερης κιθαριστικής βρετανικής σκηνής. Αν είστε όμως από αυτούς που όλα αυτά τα προηγούμενα δεν αποτελούν ακούσματα πλέον εδώ και 3 χρόνια, όπως για τον υπογραφόντα, τότε θα εκπλαγείτε ακόμα περισσότερο από το Flood. Και εκεί είναι τελικά όλη η δύναμη του. Αναμασώντας οικείες και ξεπερασμένες ηχητικές τεχνικές, κατορθώνει να χρίζεται το αποκορύφωμα της ελληνικής ποπ για το έτος 2001. Αν μη τι άλλο, τέτοιο κατόρθωμα πρέπει να ανταμοιφθεί.

5 reasons why i like Raining Pleasure

From now on, you will allow me to use the first person in my posts.
That is "Panos" (aka potis).

Here are some reasons why i am kind of a Raining Pleasure freak fan. I will come back with often!!! :)

1. They are the first Greek anglophone band to become really really popular round here. They made local major record companies really respect anglophone bands. [Being able to promote them properly is another thing, though :) ]

2. Vassilikos has one of the best male voices i have ever listened to. And i really like a lot of male voices, such as Billy MacKenzie, Tim Booth, Bono, Tim Buckley and some more. Listen to their songs and tell me i am wrong!

3. The poetry. The lyrics. I am listening to their music since i was 15. These times, The Smiths and Morrissey were a real revelation for me. As i was growing older, Morrissey's older and newer lyrics were maturing inside me and along with me. That's pretty much the case with Raining Pleasure. With songs like Deep Blue or Vain from their debut, i felt like they were written for me, those days. It still feels like this. Their more recent or new songs make the soundtrack for the various phases of my life. Capricorn, with the fucking straight (in your face) lyrics, for instance. Then, there is this new song. "Burn Down The Church"! More on this new song later.

4. For some reason, contrary to the mainstream's guidelines and case studies, they keep experimenting with their sound and style. They are pretty much emotional and spontaneous on these things. Every new album reflects the way they think and feel about music generally. From the bossa nova of Kastor Bossa to the acoustic pop of Luv 90 and from the Sonic Youth-style noise guitar pop of Bijoux to the electro pop of Is That Yoo? It is nearly impossible to choose 5 indicative songs from their repertoire. That's what makes them unique for me. Hope for you too. :)

5. The live concerts. I have seen quite a few (that means really a lot!) and i must say that given some member changes and the various new songs that have come up, during these years, the band is always evolving and become more and more mature. More and more stage friendly and are a real pleasure to watch on stage! Passion along with pure live energy and some more straight forward orchestrations.

That's only five, right??? :)

A very old live concert review for Raining Pleasure (greek edition only)

this is an old review about one of the first live performances of Raining Pleasure, back in 1993, Patras, Greece. It is copy-pasted from a Greek local fanzine, called "chrisalifourfouro".
This review is written in Greek.

As you will see (those of you who understand Greek), the band were featuring many cover songs in their play list.

"RAINING PLEASURE
SOUNDS BEYOND THE MISERABLE TOWN....
(... Μια ανταπόκριση από την Πάτρα)

Κανένας δεν θα μπορούσε να φανταστεί ότι μέσα σε μια τόσο μίζερη πόλη θα είχαμε την ευκαιρία να δούμε και να ακούσουμε από κοντά την καταπληκτική, μελαγχολική μπάντα της Βροχερής Ευχαρίστησης. Οι RAINING PLEASURE ήταν η αιτία να κατηφορίσω στο κλαμπ DRUM εκείνο το βροχερό βράδυ του Οκτώβρη. Ένας μικρός χώρος που ήταν γεμάτος από νέους, οι οποίοι περίμεναν καρτερικά την εμφάνιση των R.P... Δεν τους είχαμε ξαναδεί ποτέ και δεν μπορούσαμε να φανταστούμε τον υπέροχο, ρομαντικό και γοητευτικό ήχο που θα μας πρόσφερε αυτή η μπάντα εκείνη τη νύχτα.

Ο φωτισμός του χώρου χαμήλωνε και στη σκηνή εμφανίστηκαν επιτέλους οι RAINING PLEASURE. Ο ήχος του σύνθι γέμισε το χώρο. Το πιο ασυνήθιστο όμως άκουσμα ήταν ο μεθυστικός ήχος του βιολιού, που ξαφνικά αναδύθηκε μπροστά μας. Ναι φίλοι μου, οι R.P. έχουν στη σύνθεσή τους έναν ταλαντούχο βιολιστή. Το όλο σετ ήταν δεμένο, με τα ρυθμικά όργανα (ο ντράμερ κυριολεκτικά μαστιγώνει με ασύλληπτο ρυθμό τα τύμπανα) να δίνουν ένα τέμπο που προσεγγίζει κατά πολύ το DARK, αλλά και συνάμα τόσο φιλικό προς τη μουσική της δεκαετίας του '80.
Μια εκπληκτική διασκευή στο WITH OR WITHOUT YOU και στη συνέχεια ακολούθησε το απόλυτο τραγούδι LOVE WILL TEAR US APART, τραγουδισμένο μοναδικά από το Βασίλη (φωνή). Το μπάσο σ' ένα καταιγιστικό ρυθμό σκόρπισε ρίγη, ενώ η φωνή του Βασίλη πρόσταζε για λίγη αγάπη. Η μπάντα αρέσκεται στους ήχους των JOY DIVISION, αφού μετά ακολούθησε ακόμα ένα κομμάτι τους. Επιτέλους, είδα ένα σμιθάκι (!) δίπλα μου να κουνιέται στους ρυθμούς των τραγουδιών. Και η συνέχεια είναι ακόμα καλύτερη. Η αλλαγή του αντικειμένου δεν αλλάζει τη μοναδικότητα του πάθους. Αυτό πετυχαίνει η μουσική των R.P. PIXIES λοιπόν στο επόμενο άκουσμα (MONKEY GONE TO HEAVEN) και το συναίσθημα γίνεται ακόμα πιο όμορφο, ο χορός ακόμα πιο έντονος...

Και εκεί που νομίζαμε ότι τα είχαμε ακούσει όλα, έρχεται μία ακόμα διασκευή του TOM'S DINNER, παιγμένο σ' ένα ρυθμό τόσο χαώδη όπως μόνο αυτοί ξέρουν να το κάνουν. Η προσθήκη βιολιού και η ουά-ουά κιθάρα με έκαναν να πιστεύω ότι πολλοί θα ζήλευαν ένα τέτοιο άκουσμα. Κι ενώ πίστεψα ότι τα παιδιά αντλούν τις επιρροές τους μόνο απ' τη δεκαετία του '80, ήρθε το επόμενο κομμάτι να με διαψεύσει: TIME MACHINE! Εξίσου καταπληκτικά παιγμένο κι ο χορός καλά κρατεί!!... Πολλοί αναρωτήθηκαν αν έχουν δικά τους κομμάτια, όμως το τραγούδι που ακολούθησε κι αφιερώθηκε σε κάποια Κατερίνα, ήρθε να δώσει οριστική απάντηση. Το ROMANCE είναι ένα από τα διαμάντια τους. Συνδυάζοντας τον έντονο ρυθμό των MADNESS και το μελαγχολικό μπάσο των STRANGLERS. Η φινέτσα που προσδίδει ο ήχος του βιολιού κάνει το άκουσμα μοναδικό. Φυσικά τα παιδιά δεν μπορούσαν να παραλείψουν τα FOREST και BOYS DON'T CRY, που ήρθαν να δέσουν με το ωραίο κλίμα που είχε δημιουργηθεί. ΧΟΡΟΣ, ΧΑΡΑ και πολλά χειροκροτήματα.

Η φωνή του Βασίλη σε παραπέμπει στον R. SMITH. Η μελαγχολική χροιά της σε κάνει να αναπολείς το παρελθόν και να ξαναφέρνεις στην... ψυχή σου τις αξεπέραστες τρέλες της χαμένης δυστυχώς εφηβείας. Αλλά, σας παρακαλώ, τα αγόρια δεν πρέπει να κλαίνε, τουλάχιστον όχι πάντα... ή μήπως ναι;;... Το γκρουπ έπαιζε ασταμάτητα επί 3 ώρες. Κάπου ο Βασίλης, που συνεχώς μετά το τέλος κάθε τραγουδιού μας ρωτούσε: ''καλά;'', ανήγγειλε ότι το επόμενο κομμάτι θα είναι το τελευταίο. Είχα αρχίσει να αναρωτιέμαι πώς είναι δυνατόν να φύγουν χωρίς να παίξουν αυτό που τώρα περνούσε από το μυαλό μου, αλλά ντρεπόμουν να το πω (εσύ ντρεπόσουν; Εκπλήσσομαι!-εκδ.). Από δίπλα ο φίλος μου ο Γιώργος με ρωτούσε ''πού το πάει;''...

Οι πρώτοι στίχοι ήταν αποκαλυπτικοί: SWEETNES SWEETNESS I WAS ONLY JOKING... Ναι, είναι αυτό που ξέρετε παιγμένο κατά 2/4 πιο αργά, αν βέβαια μπορείτε να το φανταστείτε ποτέ παιγμένο έτσι! Ο γράφων γέμισε από απέραντη χαρά, σε σημείο που ήθελε να φιλήσει όλον τον κόσμο! Το προαναφερθέν σμιθάκι άρχισε να λικνίζεται, άλλοι χειροκροτούσαν ενώ άλλοι ικέτευαν για την κανονική εκτέλεση. Οι R.P. δεν τους απογοήτευσαν. VIVA THE SMITHS - VIVA THE SMITHS (πέστα να τα βλέπουν κάποιοι-κάποιοι!!-εκδ.).

Το τι έγινε δεν μπορώ να σας το περιγράψω. Ήταν σαν να εμφανιζόταν μπροστά μας όλοι οι παιδικοί μας ήρωες. Η συνέχεια ήταν το WHAT DIFFERENCE...! Αν είναι δυνατόν! Έκπληξη χαράς και ευτυχίας. Η επιβεβαίωση της ιδέας ότι η αγάπη και η ευαισθησία αποτελούν τη μόνη διέξοδο στον απίστευτο τρόπο ζωής που μας έχουν επιβάλλει. Η χαμένη αθωότητα και η αγάπη για οτιδήποτε ανόθευτο και απλό είναι ακόμη ζωντανά!! Ζουν και τρέφονται από τους υπέροχους ήχους των RAINING PLEASURE... Το συγκρότημα συνέχισε με δύο-τρεις ακόμα διασκευές (ανάμεσά τους το HIDEAWAY των COCKNEY REBEL, όπου όλοι ναρκώθηκαν από το μαγευτικό ήχο που πρόσφερε ο Βασίλης στο βιολί). Στο τέλος έπαιξαν για μια ακόμα φορά το LOVE WILL...

Ας είναι καλά τα παιδιά που μας χάρισαν αυτή την πλημμύρα υπέροχων συναισθημάτων. Οι ήχοι των R.P. μας οδήγησαν στα χαμένα μονοπάτια, που πάντα οδηγούν στον κρυμμένο, ανεκτίμητο θησαυρό της απόλαυσης της απλότητας. Μας θύμισαν τα κιτρινισμένα φύλλα του Φθινοπώρου και τη γλυκιά δροσιά της βροχής του Οκτώβρη. Μας προέτρεψαν να βγούμε έξω στους άδειους δρόμους όταν θα έχει κάτι απομείνει από το σαγηνευτικό άρωμα των βροχοσταλιών...

Αν ποτέ βγείτε στο παραθύρι σας και δείτε πέντε σαλιγκάρια σε ένα υπέροχο μόνιππο, μη γελάσετε: Θα είναι οι φίλοι μας οι R.P. Θα πετούν προς άλλους κόσμους για να τους εξερευνήσουν με τη μουσική τους. Από πίσω θα ακολουθεί η πολύχρωμη κουστωδία των ζώων του δάσους, που θα έχουν ξυπνήσει από την υπέροχη βροχούλα των R.P. Μη διστάσετε να συμμετάσχετε και σεις - ίσως κερδίσετε μία θέση στην πτήση για τον ουράνιο παράδεισο της μουσικής τους!"

Raining Pleasure rehearshing their new tracks at their own studio!

Raining Pleasure are rehearsing their new tracks at their own studio, in Rio, Patras.

There are two new songs, already.

The first one of them is called "Burn Down The Church". There is also a demo version of this, recorded by the band.

The new song is by far the most up tempo rock track by Raining Pleasure, with a very solid rhythm base and straight rock guitars. The lyrics are very powerful, with Vassilikos (the singer of the band) giving one of his most passionate (if that's the appropriate English word) performances. The song is more or less about the freedom of choices in our times for each one of us. Some excellent backing vocals by the rest band members complement the song, which excites us for the future of our favorite band!

The song is featured in the playlist of the band's live concerts already!

Raining Pleasure bio

Raining Pleasure is a four-piece band that hails from Patra, the biggest town in Southern Greece. Having recorded their first demo in the early nineties, Raining Pleasure quickly became the Greek indie scene's best-kept secret.

Their debut album 'Memory Comes Back' (1996) was released for the respected indie label Lazy Dog and received enthusiastic reviews upon release as did it's follow up, 'Nostalgia', released in late 1998.

In Spring 2001 Raining Pleasure were linked with EMI. The band recorded and released an ep 'Capricorn', before returning to the studio to prepare their third full length album, their first for a major.

In December 2001 Raining Pleasure's major label debut 'Flood' was released to critical acclaim. The album spawned three massive airplay hits in Greece, the biggest of which 'Fake' has become a pop and rock radio staple, after successfully being used in TV spots for Greece's leading telecommunications company. 'Fake' was followed by the hits 'Capricorn' and 'Only Through You'. "Fake" was also used to the soundtrack of the film "The Best of Times" directed by the famous Taiwanese director Tso-chi Chang. The film was nominated for the Golden Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival 2002.

The buzz surrounding the group is fantastic and has taken many by surprise. In Rock N Roll Magazine 2002 readers' poll the group was voted best Greek rock act of all time, a humbling vote of confidence for an act that has been around for just over 5 years.

Raining Pleasure have been one of the hottest tickets across Greece for three summers running, having shared festival stages with The Cure, The Pixies, The Dandy Warhols and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club among others and having sold out theatres across the country.

Their major label debut album, 'Flood', performed exceptionally well on the charts, spending 15 weeks on the international chart where it peaked at No.1 before chart regulations necessitated the album's move to the local repertoire chart where it peaked at No.5 (an astonishing and unprecedented feat for a Greek act performing in English). The album spent well over a year on the Top 40 Artist Album Charts and has been certified Gold.

2004: The group's album 'Forwards & Backwards', is introduced by the double A-side single 'World'/'Identical Twins'. On 'Identical Twins' esteemed vocalist Elly Paspala contributes a vocal track of rare beauty. Both songs became airplay hits.

In March the band's cover of ABBA's 'Dancing Queen' featured in the successful Greek film 'Hardcore', began climbing the airplay charts where it will remain for over six months. In September the group scores another hit with album track 'Love Me, Love Me, Love Me' which video clip directed by Marina Gioti won the best animation video clip award at the Animation Block Party Awards 2005 in New York.

Winter 2004: The band embarks on its first tour of Germany and enters the studio to record a new version of the classic album by Manos Hadjidakis and the New York Rock N Roll Ensemble, 'Reflections'.

'Reflections' is released to immediate critical acclaim. The album was introduced to media at a concert at St Paul's Anglican Church in Athens. The album has been in the Top 10 since release.

The band are in the studio at the moment, rehearsing their new songs.
