This was the fourth time i have missed a concert of them in Patras, during the last twelve years. Dimitris, you will pay this!!!
Anyway, i saw them at "Ston Aera", the next day, Saturday.
It was their first time in Athens, doing a proper show with Mick, the new German guitarist. Ok, they also played at Fuzz Club, 12th March, for the Coca-Cola Soundwave, but they only played for 30-40 minutes.
The band is in fantastic form. The club was full. They had no synthies, just three guitars, bass and drums. Pure rock! The 4 new songs they played are excellent and make a promise about an album that will really reflect the band's pure energy on live appearances. "Tik Boom Crash" is a born chart-topper and "Our Father', the new name for "Burn Down The Church", has become even more staight-forward. I loved it...
The live version of "Stay" was much more passionate and Pixies-like, than the demo version, with Vassilikos' inspired low-key vocals and "Flamengo" was a real punkish dynamite who confirmed the new attiude and musical directions of the band.
The top moment of the gig was their cover of "Wholla Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin. It was the first time -as far as i can recall- i heard an actual solo played by them! Vassilikos was f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c in vocals, in a song that great Robert Plant put his eternal trademark. Everybody was singing and dancing like maniacs -especially me- and i was left counting days till their next show at "Planet Music", Mets, Athens.
Oh, by the way... My good friend Dimitris (not the book-keeper) was apparently so excited by the show, he actually forgot me and left me alone at Petroupoli (or else, about 10 euros by taxi from exarcheia!). Nice...

They have found an English producer and i hope that his ideas and vision for the new album will contribute to a great work.
Raining Pleasure, the world still awaits! Rock on!!!

Καλως ήρθες καταρχήν,
ας ξεκινήσω με 2 παρατηρήσεις τυπικές:
1. δεν υπάρχει κομμάτι out of love. Μιλάς για κάποιο από τα καινούρια; Είναι 4 μέχρι στιγμής αυτά:
Our Father (πρώην Burn Down The Church), Tik Boom Κrash (ή με c, δεν είμαι σίγουρος), Flamengo και Stay.
2. όταν λες Lp romance, προφανώς αναφέρεσαι στο Nostalgia, του 1998.
Όσον αφορά τα σχόλιά σου για το νέο μουσικό ήχο [που ουσιαστικά δεν είναι και τρομερά νέος, αφού εδώ και ενάμιση χρόνο έτσι παίζουν στα live περίπου] του γκρουπ, η γνώμη μου είναι η εξής:
1. Ένα σχήμα που υπάρχει από το 1990, όταν πλέον φτάνει να παίζει ακόμα στο 2007, δεν είναι λογικό να περιμένεις -και να είσαι και ευχαριστημένος με αυτό- να μένεις σε πεπατημένες, σε ήχους που το έχουν "καθιερώσει" αν θέλεις - αν και αυτό ξέρουμε και οι δύο πολύ καλά ότι είναι μεγάλο ψέμα, εμπορικά τουλάχιστον. Μεγαλώνουν, ακούνε άλλα πράγματα πλέον, έχουν 3 διαφορετικά μέλη από το ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ τους, εξελίσσονται σαν άτομα. Πρέπει να το έχεις υπόψη σου αυτό. Αν πιστεύεις στο ταλέντο και την αξία τους σαν σχήμα, τότε θα έπρεπε να είσαι χαρούμενος που διαρκώς εξελίσσονται, από άλμπουμ σε άλμπουμ, από περιοδεία σε περιοδεία.
2. Ο Spiral ήταν ένα μέλος του γκρουπ που έπαιζε πλήκτρα και κιθάρα, ο Mick παίζει κιθάρα. Πλήκτρα θα μπορούσε να παίζει ο οπιοσδήποτε στο σχήμα, απλά δεν τα χρειάζονται, είναι επιλογή τους. Για το θέμα της σημαντικότητας του οποιοδήποτε μέλους και του λάπτοπ του καθενός (ουσιαστικά μιλάμε για κάποιες προηχογραφημένες λούπες, καθαρά για γέμισμα του ήχου στα live), δεν θα πω τη γνώμη μου.
3. Πίστεψέ με, όπως και σε κάθε συγκρότημα με πλούσια ιστορία από πίσω του, πάντα υπάρχουν στιγμές που έχεις λατρέψει λίγο ή πολύ περισσότερο ή λιγότερο από τις άλλες. Έτσι, όταν πας να δεις ένα live του Morrissey, θέλεις να ακούσεις π.χ τα κομμάτια που πρωτολάτρεψες από αυτόν. Το ίδιο συμβαίνει και με μένα με τους Raining Pleasure. Μου λείπουν αναρίθμητα τραγούδια από το back catalogue. Τι να σου πρωτοπω; Deep Blue (καλά, αυτό είναι το μεγάλο μου κόλλημα), Talking To A Poet, Six Days And Six Nights, Waiting For The Bell To Ring, Approaching Of The Hour, Bijoux, Julie's Birthday, Only Through You, Noone's Gonna Love Your Troubles, Nostalgia, Rainsong 55, Venus In Ambulance, κτλ.
4. Πότε άκουσες τα τελευταία 5-6 χρόνια -τουλάχιστον για να μην πω 7-8- κομμάτια σαν τα open window και face in the lake;
5. Θα ξαναπώ ότι η επιτυχία -στο εξωτερικό, που είναι προφανώς το ζήτημα- θα έρθει μόνο αν το συγκρότημα νοιώθει καλά με αυτό που κάνει, το πιστεύει, μπορεί να το υποστηρίξει, παρά αν "πιέζεται" να βγάλει έναν ήχο που δεν έχει σχέση με την ιδιοσυγκρασία του σήμερα. Τελικά τι έχει αλήθεια αξία; Να είσαι πιστός στο ένστικτό σου και τις ανάγκες σου κάθε χρονική περίοδο ή να προσπαθείς να καλύψεις τις ανάγκες των "niche" κοινών που έχεις αποκτήσεις στην πορεία;
Αυτές είναι μερικές δικές μου σκέψεις...
